D-B Computer Room Air Conditioning

Reliance Construction was subcontracted by Crowder Construction the Prime Contract holder to perform upgrades to Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) systems in building 2310 at Ft Belvoir, VA.
The scope of work was to design and construct a new system to provide cooling to computer units utilizing chilled water CRAC units to support computer systems that are integral to the communications network.
The work involves the demolition of existing systems. New construction includes the installation of controls that integrate with the existing controls systems. The units are designed to provide heating and cooling as well as humidification and dehumidification to ensure correct conditions for the continuous operation of the network. The redesign and construction of the air distribution network to better service the computer bank was a contract requirement along with the relocation of lighting, fire alarms and sprinklers. Necessary to the installation of new chiller units was the re-piping of supply lines that were sized to provide future expansion of the cooling system as the needs of the client are projected to require.
